Trailquesting comes back to the FENS (Sunday 13th April 2008)
The ninth round of the Fenwick's Midlands Winter Series takes place at Holbeach Hurn in Lincolnshire on Sunday 13th April.
All controls will be accessible by road, but with off-road shortcuts. So once again we'll be expecting some big distances from the winning riders.
The nature of the terrain makes this an ideal introduction to cycle orienteering, but see the forum comments from top riders after the last event if you think it will be easy to win! This event will, however, use a different area to the last Fens event and present a different set of challenges, but again wind will be likely to play a crucial role.

Recycle Glass in Green Bins from Monday 3rd March 2008
At last recycling has moved on to allow glass to go in the green bins from Monday 3rd March. Be careful though as there are strict guidelines as to what items of glass they'll accept.

Now if only they'd allow tinfoil in the green and kitchen waste in the brown ones then the impact on landfill will really start to happen.

Thinking of trying a new sport? Why not try TRAILQUESTING. (Sun. Sept 2nd - Holbeach)

The latest leg is being held about 30 minutes drive away from Peterborough at Holbeach. See the website link here for more detailed information.
This will be the first Trailquest held in the Fens, and so should provide a level playing field in all respects. The off road tracks in this area are not technical, but can be tiring, as a rough guide for route planning sea bank and dyke side bridleways tend to be the slowest going. Being the Fens, the wind will be a vital factor.
For the top riders the nature of the terrain will mean big distances and challenging route choices, but it will also make an ideal introductory or family event with much to see along the way. The area used will stretch from the inland peat fen, through the seaward silt fen and on to the salt marshes around The Wash. The event has been organised to coincide with one of the highest tides of the year, when the marshes are at their most dramatic, and seals come close to shore
What is TRAILQUESTING?
Trailquest is a mountain bike orienteering event where the competitors have to navigate from control location to control location, punching a score card at each location. Competitors may ride solo or as a team of two (that must ride together).
Control locations vary in the amount of points they are worth and competitors may use any legal route to ride between them. The rider or team of two who scores the highest number of points within the time limit is the winner.
Trailquesting is an exciting sport that is rapidly growing in popularity. Competitors of all ages and both sexes regularly take part. You don't have to be super fit and young to do well as route planning and good navigation skills are equally critical.
At the start a colour map is provided which is marked up with the control points, along with a sheet describing the exact location of the control on the ground once you have navigated to it. Competitors then have to navigate to as many control points as they possibly can and ensure they return to the HQ within the time limit - there are score deductions for being late
