As a permit holder onto the nature reserve at Kings Dyke, I get to hear when there have been interesting sightings. This report came to me today.
Chiffchaff 2
Willow warbler 1
Shelduck 2
Oystercatcher 1
Grey heron 2
Grass snake 1
Common lizard 1
Great crested newt 208
Otter Many fresh tracks
Kings Dyke is not that far away. I wonder how far this wildlife could spread if it didn't have an expanse of concrete to cross to come our way?

Great crested newts are protected!
| Quote: | Conservation status
Great crested newts have declined within the UK over recent years, due to the destruction and pollution of their breeding sites and terrestrial habitat. They are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and the Habitat Regulations Act of 1994. It is illegal to catch, possess or handle great crested newts without a licence and it is also illegal to cause them harm or death, or to disturb their habitat in any way. The IUCN Red List categorises the species as ‘lower risk’. |
If they are at kings dyke they must be living in the vast fields
We watched an owl hunting over the field last night around 6ish .....a joy to watch!
How do you get people in to do comprehensive surveys of what is living in the area they talking about developing? _________________ A fairy is for life not just for christmas! |

Hi to all!
Having been made aware of this travesty by Nikki, I would like to add my very small voice to what hope will become a torrent of reaction against this monstrosity.
In reply to cheekyfairy's query, I contacted Froglife today and spoke to someone called Tessy. She informs me that Froglife will be undertaking an ecological survey, on behalf of the developers, in the very near future. Results will be forwarded to the relevant council. If protected species are found then translocation to an appropriate new site, once one is found, will be undertaken. In other words it will be another Hampton. Froglife I imagine have no, or little, power to influence any decision about the future of this development, but it IS good to know that they for one are being consulted. I feel, without wishing to appear defeatist, that once the developers start bandying about phrases such as 'economic growth' then as always, the god money will reign supreme. But please, anybody with the strength and will to fight this, do so!
